Wow, how do you explain to someone that refuses to go check the oracle text that "Circles of Protection cost mana to use" actually now means "Activated abilities of white enchantments cost more to activate."
That's quite a change. I don't remember Circle of Protections being the only white enchantments with activated abilities (which would explain why they were lumped into that silly category)... but I guess I'm wrong.

Somehow, it reminded me ...
Gloom -> Gollum, Circle -> Ring, 3 more mana -> Ring becoming heavier

One of the nastiest white color hosers ever printed. If you ritual this out on turn 1 versus any white deck it's basically game.

The thing is, Circles of Protection were not the only white enchantments with activated abilities in Alpha, so the Oracle ruling is a significant increase in power for this card.

They should reprint something like this, without the bit about the Circles of Protection.
Why did they single out CoPs anyways? The world may never know. Were they that annoying?
I always liked the design of circles of protection, in that it reinforced the "magic as combat" aspect of the world that seems to be lost today. Now mages use these swirling combos as colors and you don't really get the same immediacy of game. What would the game have been like had they kept cards like this around?

Not deserving of being rare, is it? they bumped it up just to keep it up out of drafts range, but still, that is hardly fair.
