I like to think of this card as an enchantment or artifact that you can cast for free at the cost of not being able to play any lands the turn you do. Doesn't look -as- bad that way. All in all, though, it's still an awful card.

It is kind of baffling why they didn't make this "tap for 1 or to prevent 1 damage." That would have made it a good foil for Desert, and would that even have been too powerful by old Magic standards? Has this card EVER been worth using?

It's a flavourful land, but it has the unfortunate disinction of not having an actual mana ability. I wonder, if they were to print a new land that gave you the choice between tapping for 1 or preventing 1 damage to a creature... what rarity would it be printed at?

(note: closest more modern alternative is Eiganjo Castle, and it has an activation cost, has a targeting restriction, AND is Legendary.)

maybe if it entered play tapped, but could tap for blue or prevent the 1 damage?

To think that this set could have had printed Sheltered Valley instead.

Compared to its counterpart - Desert - this one is really disappointing.
It would have been an incredibly nice card, if only it produced colorless mana as well.

It's really odd that the offensive card would get this option, while the defensive card did not.
Oh well. Early Magic Set logic. (The first Expansion Set, even.)

It's still a shame since an Oasis would such a cool land with potentially gorgeous artwork to have in a Core Set.

Oh well, we still got Sheltered Valley later on, so we don't have to worry about the flaw of this card, right?...
