Great fun with Oona's Blackguard. Makes it a 2/4 that, whenever it hits, makes the defending player discard a card and lets you draw a card. Then throw in Merfolk Sovereign and you have all the card advantage, all of it.

Hey, Ophidian can have a power of 0 ((Weakness)), and you still can draw a card, this guy can be given trample ((Rancor)), or double strike ((Assault Strobe)). Its like comparing chocolate ice cream to vanilla, both are different flavors.

Of the 4 Merfolk in 2011, this is the one you most want to use Merfolk Sovereign's tap ability on.

Handy little guy (gal? Hard to tell from here, and I'm certainly not gonna lift up the tail and check), the only card in the set that makes the Sovereign worthwhile. Not overwhelming, but for a common Blue creature it's decent.

I just wanted to say how stupid the Magic community is on here. This card is strictly better than Ophidian and is a relevant creature type yet is rated lower. You are all really terrible at Magic and these ratings are obviously useless.
