You know, it's funny. Besides portal (which is an odd set in of itself) giant spider has not been in anything that ISN'T a core set. Odd, you would think they would throw it in as filler or something but the other sets just have a spin-off of this guy.

Since I read WotC's announcement that as of Magic 2012, this will be the only card to appear in every core set, the song 'Eye of the Tiger' has been running through my mind. Mainly the line "And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night".

I still like this card in limited to block fliers. He's a nice staple card that every new player should encounter when learning to play. It definitely belongs in the core set 3/5

It'd be nice if they did a different art where you can better see HOW GIANT this GIANT SPIDER really is... it looks to be about as big as a tree trunk in this image but how big is that tree? I just feel like there is some missed potential here.

This guy is such a bro. Awesome in Limited, means you can continously block most fliers and save removal such as Plummet or Doom Blade for your opponent's evasive bombs.

They should have at least given him some new art. The flavor text for the M12 version is perfect though.

I love you, Giant Spider, but why did you have to take giant growth's place?
Also, M12 flavor text is fitting :P

Sorry, but this is neither better nor worse than Blight widow, they're both situational. As has been said, if your opponent is closer to death by health than poison, this guy is definitely better. If all you need are 2 more poison counters for a win, then Blightwidow would definitely be best.
Granted, in either of those situations, I would certainly HOPE you had something better than either of these spiders to be swinging with.
I give it a 3.5/5. It's definitely a staple in limited and drafts. Not an outrageously good card, but for the slot it fills, it fills it well.

It's not eating a dragon. It's eating a drake, as only drakes are lacking in intelligence enough to go near those stupid spiders. Ironic, as blue is the color of intellect.

@Gaffy00
if your opponent has 2 life, 2 poison counters, and you can get this guy in for damage, he's better than blightwidow.
In other words, would you put that guy in a non-infect deck? ok, maybe you would, since all spiders do is block anyway...
