Looks like they picked up on the fact that nobody was using Vampire Aristocrat anyway.

Though it's not nearly as high a pick in M11 Limited as in ROE Limited.

it's been way too long since bloodthrone vampire was reprinted and it's about time! i look forward to finally being able to purchase these and laughing at all the collectors who kept artificially inflating the prices!

It has a really good use with abyssal persecutor. I always attack away with the ones i have out and my abyssal persecutor and force them to choose which one to block, if they block the vampires then they take 6 and eventually i just sacrifice it or they block abyssal persecutor and then i sacrifice everything and deal a lot of damage via this guy

Combine this card with Blade of the Bloodchief. A few reassembling skeletons and perhaps some bloodghast going with a set of fetchlands. And you've got yourself a beastly sacrifice deck!

I use this with Act of Treason and Traitorous Blood, pretty good synergy.

One of my favorite sac engines. Hits the board quickly, provides some nice blocking potential while filling your graveyard, and is not powerful enough to draw much spot removal.

@Cheza-
i cant see this being red in current magic. red likes to sac artifacts, lands, and especially goblins. hell, red even likes to sac itself for bonuses, (bloodpyre elemental) or just at the end of the turn (ball lightning). black loves to sacrifice creatures. Most new players start playing in coresets, and i think they were trying to show the synergy with this and reassembling skeleton, or with the skeleton and the viscera seer.

I honestly don't see this being a star in Pauper. Empty the Warrens storm combo makes 1 damage sweepers like Tremor and Seismic Shudder popular sideboards. Infect decks and Serrated Arrows are popular too, Bloodthrone hates -1/-1 counters.
Also, Reassembling Skeleton combos with this card, which are underwhelming to me to say the least, are not actually legal in Pauper. Skeleton is Uncommon.
Bloodthrone Vampire's best job, IMO, is as a tool in an EDH token deck, along with fun things like Vicious Shadows, Deranged Hermit, Saproling Symbiosis... but I prefer Carrion Feeder, Phyrexian Ghoul, and Nantuko Husk for the job and usually don't need a fourth (or a third) one of these guys. Consistency may be of varied importance for you. Bloodthrone is a nice card, overall.
