I've always liked Firefiends because I can kill a creature with 4 toughness, or block one creature and kill another. 3 now might be a bit much for what it does, but I still use them in my Lyzolda, the Blood Witch deck.

Solid card for any burn deck. It can take out either one fairly tough creature or two smaller ones. It also makes an opponent think twice before swinging at you because it might kill his utility creature.

Well, it's sorta no FTK, but the kavu was always....really really good. This is like a mediocre version. Half the effect (at a different time), half the power, half the toughess....and only 1 less cost? Plus the effect works at the wrong time. It would be much better if it was when it came into play, so you could kill your opponent's BOP/cobra/heirarch/whatever early.

@themlsna If you're looking to use something like this mostly for the sacrifice option, why not take a look at Mudbutton Torchrunner?

Just missed the chance to get printed with elegant "dies" wording. When Planechase 2 came around, they picked Mudbutton Torchrunner over this. My only consolation is that the goblin, too, was due for "dies" text.

I used to run this in my burn deck, but it never really saw too much use. Letting your opponent choose when (or if) they wanted to take burn is a pain in the ass. The Firefiend is never going to die when there's a creature you'd like to nuke, and it's never going to do damage while there's a creature with more than 2 toughness out there.
