OMG it's at common people! A 7 power creature at common in red and black. So no not "strictly worse" than the rare Tsabo Tavoc. If she was a rare legendary then maybe but she's a common which puts her just about right for design space *at common*.

I'd say, for a 7 mana black/red card, with no drawbacks, it's pretty typical. Not by today's standards, but since when has black or red been known to give 1/1 for each 1 mana spent?

Since when has rarity become grounds to judge what is strictly better than something else? If one card is better than another card in some way and equal in all other respects - within sane reason - than that card is strictly better than the other. Being rare or common has absolutely no bearing on gameplay! If Lightning Bolt was a mythic rare and Shock was as common as basic land, Lightning Bolt would still be STRICTLY BETTER than Shock. Jeez, guys...
I suppose with the introduction of shiny foil cards and "mythic rares" that outclass everything else, newer players have accepted the unspoken message that Magic: the Gathering really IS all about who is willing to spend the most cash on cards. Almost makes one wonder our friend slackwerewolf is right about why we should go back to playing for ante.
