@Kryptnyt - Yes, you've got the right of it! M:TG is becoming more politically correct, perhaps, because goblins and pigs have had a long and spotty track record of working together.

The {1} activation cost must represent the mana it takes to tip the poor guy over.

@Diachronos yes the spike would still have it's effect (though only deathtouch would mean anything b/c the second ability specifies combat damage). The game would also check for any other equipments or enchantments that were on it before it left the field (so if he had a Loxodon Warhammer on him when you sacced him, you would also gain 2 life).

Ridiculously. Good.
I would argue this guy is the second best creature for RDW in standard right now, behind Goblin Guide. The utility of having an unstoppable 2 damage once he's on the field in addition to being a beater makes him better than Kargan Dragonlord, better than Kiln Fiend, and better than Plated Geopede (all of whom are sitting ducks to removal). Often times an opponent will be forced to use removal on this guy, which just means their spell fizzles and they get shocked for 2. Hoping for a reprint in M12.
Plus, the flavor is awesome!

Mogg Fanatic was good. This is Mogg Fanatic x 2 that trades with bears.
@ Diachronos:
No. Quietus Spike's wording strictly says that the damage has to be combat damage. Noncombat damage, even from a creature source, will not trigger Quietus Spike.

If you really want your Hauler to be happy, take him to the Furnace Celebration.

I love this little guy. He's adaptable and cheap and a goblin. Perfect red fodder with a bit of burn built in.
