It's a really nice effect; a creature with +0/+3 with vigilance can attack without worry and block almost anything. It's not worth paying 3, but the fact that it's a free artifact really helps make up for that. That, and it's an equipment so even if the creature dies, you lose the mana but not the card advantage.
I give it 3.5 stars.

Strictly better than Kite Shield. That's...interesting.

Two of these and an Origin Spellbomb on turn 1 set up my Screeching Silcaw mill victory. I placed 3rd in a draft on the back of this. On its own its alright, but with any Metalcraft creature its great.

This gives me an attacking 8/8 vigilance creature on the 4th turn with Doran, the Siege Tower.

Turn 2 Plague Stinger and equip this turn 3. Will probably win you a limited game since they can't block OR attack with anything that isn't infect even as large as a Razor Hippogriff.
Rough trying to find a place for it outside of limited with the equip of 3 though. 3 stars.

Works Amazingly in my EDH. Between Protean Hydra, Engulfing Slagwurm and Borborygmos, it really helps keep up a steady pounding while not leaving myself vulnerable. Still, I would have prefer it if it costed mana to put out, and less to equip... 3.5/5

Both awesome towards metal craft and makes infectors have increased survivability and vigilance. I always feel confidant picking this card in limited.

My steel overseer really benefits from this, allowing it to both attack and tap in the same turn. As a bonus it conveniently puts the overseer out of bolt range.
