Not a terrible card, but not a fantastic one either. Preventing all damage from any source to any source is versitile and he can in fact block decently as well. For 3 mana, I have run the guy before. That said, he is not so broken that people will be dropping major $$ on him. He fills his niche.

I think you hit the nail on the head shoe. While there are more powerful creatures today, this little bugger is still playable.
