He's got a big fat body for the right cost, he doesn't cost you any colored mana, and he is in a set that cares about artifacts. Seems like a fine common card to me. The game needs simple creatures, and this guy does what he needs to.
I could see some situations where I would put this in a sealed deck. I wouldn't be that happy about it, but landing this thing would make a big difference on the board. I mean, people played Alpha Tyrranax is sealed and succeeded with him. Only problem is Mr. Hexplate here is vulnerable to artifact removal...

Would've prefered a bunch of sixes all around the costing and such, but still, 5/7 isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Perfectly costed for what he does and what he is, a common artifact creature.

VANILLA RULES 4EVER!!!
Yes, I LOVE VANILLA CREATURES! And the bigger they are, the more I like them!
They exist because Magic NEEDS them. They are not crap, they only are the simplest possible. I know, this would have been better if it costed , but consider also that it doesn't cost colored mana...

I like the concept, would have liked to see something more interesting though. Something along the lines of the flavor of the glimmervoid-like plates he has on there.

Sacrifice 3 Lands: You may play Hexplate Golem without paying it's mana cost.
Would have flavor and fit to the art.
Sadly nothing more than a mediocre till bad limited card.
