I guess Clone is obsolated huh? I still remember taking Clones to tournaments to deal with their Yoseis and Simic Sky Swallowers. Though a Clone would not be nearly as effective against most Titans, especially the red and green ones.
This is better than Clone because of the reduced mana cost, but not that it's not strictly better. The inherent weakness of artifact creatures is that they can be hit by both artifact removal and creature removal. In addition, if you choose to use this to copy a noncreature artifact, it can still be countered with Remove Soul, unlike Sculpting Steel.
So, yes, it's better overall, but Clone is not obsoleted.

I can't believe that no one has mentioned the most obvious combo yet. Annihilate your enemy totally by using this on your Storm Crow (though this means you'll have one on the field already, which is an automatic winning condition).

Not quite sure what all the hype is about. Cryptoplasm does the exact same thing, only it isn't an artifact.

I wished all these blue copy creatures would get banned in EDH. I can't count anymore how often my general already got copied with this card. They only lead to that everyone always only plays the same stupid and boring cards like always. Just boring.

It would be funny to use liquid metal coating and make your opponent's plainswalker an artifact, then make this a copy of the plainswalker, thus blowing up opponent's plainswalker.

symbol test:
Sweet. Get it with:
L bracket - 3 - L parenthesis - U/P - R parenthesis - R bracket
Crazy fun card. People like me that don't use blue have more copying effects!
