This and all the obelisks are strictly worse than Darksteel Ingot.

It's mana fixing and an artifact, besides.
Hello, Esper.

Also strictly worse than Manalith. Might find room in an EDH deck that already has Darksteel Ingot and Manalith.

Obelisks are not that bad
If your opponent steals obelisks they are almost useless. If they steal an ingot they've got an indestructible source of any color mana

They are one sided help that Esper could use

If your only running those three colors, this is equal to manalith, baring unique situations where you would need other colors because of something an opponent does.

Also you could run alongside manalith.

@ Clockwork Well, there are in most cases worse than the ingot. There are rare exceptions. For example if your opponent needs another red mana to be able to play his winning card. If he manages to steal your ingot, he will have that red mana. If he steals the obelisk: nope.
Or lets say your opponent has a hoard-smelter dragon. If you have an ingot in play, your opponent can keep activating the dragon on the ingot as often as he wants (if he has enough mana) since the ingot won't be destroyed, dealing a huge amount of damage to you. An obelisk wouldn't allow more than one activation. :)

In any case, I prefer to fetch lands from my library.
