Except there are better options in Legacy than 4 mana cards that do nothing on their own. Grim Lavamancer is a more consistent source of damage than this in the quick format. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was excellent in Limited.

This card is sorely underrated for Legacy. Any sort of deck that can force discarding should run at least one of these if they have the chance, it can make the difference between a win and a loss very quickly.

R&D does a lot of overreacting, I've noticed. If a 1-drop that deals x-4 damage is overpowered, perhaps the next logical step would be a more fairly costed card with the same effect. This seems a little bit too tame for the trouble you have to go through to get it online.
