This card is awful. But it has its uses. It ships in the Tezzeret half of the vs Elspeth duel decks. Fortunately, it ships with Steel Overseer, Energy Chamber, and Contagion Clasp. Any one of these can make this playable. Otherwise, it isn't. It also ships with Esperzoa, which can help you reset it, but is a distinctly inefficient use of mana. I usually use this card as fodder for Foil, or if I need to block a flier for a turn.

I agree with rillaan - everything about this card is just plain awful. It's as if MTG is forced to make 10-20 useless cards per set. In general, paying 4 CMC for a 3/3 Flyer would be acceptable, but to have the creature lose a +1/+1 counter each time it attacks OR blocks??? Come on, Guys. Why...just, why?

With proliferate, it's really not that bad.

They just wanted to remind everyone how bad creatures used to be. Clockwork creatures were a great example.

Now that I see this, I feel bad for bashing Rusted Sentinel so harshly.
