So are you implying that card rating should include it's playability within the format that suits the edition it was printed in?
I normally rate cards by their overall usage.
But i think you have a point nonetheless...
Former new cards that were playable in a past Standard Format that doesn't exist anymore might have gained a better rating than they would deserve in Eternal Formats, or Block-Contructed - which includes a further Cycle and Core Set.
However, I can put this Duel Decks: Elspeth vs. Tezzeret reprint of Thougthcast still in an Affinity deck, so i'll give this card a 5/5 ;)

drawing 2 cards is pretty powerful. Tezzeret's Gambit won me more than one game at the New Phyrexia prerelease, and that card isn't nearly as good
And yes, I understand that these two cards are very different, they are just similar in my head (draw 2 cards, are blue sorceries, and are able to cost less mana)

This isn't a 5/5 card guys. It may have been back in the days of affinity decks, but that was a pretty specific time.
It's still great, still a 4.5, but not a 5

with 4 artifacts, its 2/3s an ancestral recall at sorcery speed. ancestral recall, being 5 times too powerful to begin with, means this is very good

Quite the hoop to jump through for efficient card draw; though I admit it's a worthwhile hoop. I think this is quite a fair card actually.
