...Why have people not made wooden stakes into crossbow bolts as to fire at the flying vampires?
I mean, you think the people in Innistrad would deal with enough vampires to be more creative...

Give one to Olivia Voldaren and see what she can do with it. You won't be disappointed.

The combined mana of two whole lands to sharpen a stick of birch.
Sure. One for the wood, and one to bless it.

It can also kill creatures with Changeling. Blades of Velis Vel can knock off two creatures.
Anyway use Lure or a creature with that ability or one that can block multiple creatures. Have Wooden Stake equipped and hit the opponent's creatures with Shields of Velis Vel for a massacre.

Given that most vampires fly this is a meh artifact at best.

I think this may work well when using infect against vampires. Either receive a minimum of 2 infect counters or have your vampire destroyed.

A sideboard card, but a good one.

Similar to Blazing Torch's protection ability, I was never able to use this against any vampires, because hardly any were played.
It did win me one game, though, making my Galvanic Juggernaut 6/5, which was exactly that one extra point I needed to win!! We were already in extra turns and time was running out...
