I know that this dude is pretty underwhelming, but I can't help but love him. I know that everybody has those "nostalgia cards" and Benalish Lancer is one of mine. He came in my very first pre-con deck. Plus, just look at that badass artwork!

Awesome art. This card is so close to greatness it hurts. If the kicker had been one less, it would have been a very good uncommon. If the kicker had been two less, and the casting cost of Benalish Lancer himself had been 1WW, it would have been a spectacular (and balanced) rare. Sigh. The artwork deserved more.

So... 3 mana for a vanilla 2/2 or 6 mana for a 4/4 first striker... lame.
