@PhyrexianFailure: "strictly better than Dross Crocodile. still not exactly good."
This card isn't "strictly better" than Dross Crocodile. In most cases, it's better, yes, but as an artifact as well as a creature, it's vulnerable to twice the removal that the crocodile is. The Souleater's additional weakness compared to the crocodile means it's not "strictly better," which implies no such weaknesses.

Ick. Easy to kill, horrid on defense, won't get more than one attack in... if you end up running it, pick it late.

Not strictly better PhyrexianFailure. Dross Crocodile can't be shattered. I guess in limited is ok. In constructed it is, like most of this set, boring and crappy. Since I rate cards after how happy I am to get it in a booster, I give it a 0.5 of 5.

Not at all strictly better.
Color variance means a lot, and artifacts are harder to kill.

Seriously, majinara? You think this is just as bad as Aven Trooper or Shelkin Brownies. Give me a break.

Decent Fling fodder. Not much else. And Dross Crocodile is both black and a Zombie. that matters.

without some sort of pump it WILL get killed if you need to activate its ability and 5 damage at most is not worth the mana cost plus the activation of trample, possibly negated by you losing two life for the activation. Maybe as a deterrent to attackers?
