I think Gorehorn Minotaurs were getting a little too cocky, so green had to step in and show everybody how to do a 5/5 for 4. This'll be one of the big hits among common creatures in Limited and Pauper.

They renamed it to dies in M12 for the same reason they renamed RFG to Exile and and Comes into Play to Enters the Battlefield - it's less abstract and more flavourful. Also, dies is significantly shorter than the previous wording, and was commonly used as slang anyways.

The weird thing about this card, Gorehorn Minotaur, and numerous other Bloodthirsty, Morbid, and Metalcrafting creatures is that they never actually get to be balanced cards. Either the state of the game is in their favor, and they are very cheap for what they do, or it isn't, and they are too expensive for what they do.

@AncientTimer - It all depends on the deck style and colors. In B/G, killing off a creature is incredibly easy. Hell, in pure G, stomping over an opposing creature (or eating it...Eaten by Spiders, Leaf Arrow, Plummet) is easy enough. Even sacrificing your own creature to do something will trigger morbid.

Very Golgari- likes scavenge-able creatures. Could become a massive Menace!

Did they rename it "dies" just to make this set feel creepier?

Or pair with said Gorehorn Minotaur, bloodthirst and Morbid work very well together. It's a lose lose situation for your opponent.

So who else is getting deja vu for the big demon boar thing in Princess Mononoke?
