There are plenty of flying bird soldiers that are 2/3. The griffin here is good for attack power and is a good variation from past cards.

Flyers in limited rock. This guy is no exception, really wish he had extra toughness, even if it meant he was a 2/3 instead.

Let's propose neat abilities for the vanilla creatures that get printed in each new core set. Who knows, a bored Wizards developer may happen upon one...

Knight's Mount 1White (2White: attach this creature to a Knight creature you control. While attached, this creature cannot attack or block, and its activated abilities can't be activated. Mount only as a sorcery.)

Has use in limited/draft situations as an okay flyer.

Well, comparable to Abbey Griffin at least. One power, vigilance... a decent trade off. Doesn't mean either of them are good. Perhaps if Griffin tribal was more together in constructed, but as is Griffin Rider alone certainly doesn't justify these.
