Funny how this is identical to Rakdos's Return when x=2 and the majority of the time you use Rakdos's Return it is with x=2. All this lacks is the ability to be an overcosted Red Sun's Zenith and burn people as a finisher.

To everyone saying this should have been printed at {1}{B}{B}:
Just compare this to Blightning. Blightning is two colors and was still a very powerful card. Reducing the amount of life loss by one would not be enough to justify taking an amazing multicolored card and making it monocolored. Now, a cost of {B}{B}{B} would be fair (as it would restrict this to mono-black decks). Of course, Wizards probably doesn't like printing many cards with such restrictive costs.

I notice that Greg Staples did the art for both this and the AVR edition of Angel's Mercy. The similar poses can't be coincidence...But I do wonder if the mirroring was part of the art directions.

It's always interesting to see cards like this that are terrible but if their mana cost had been tweaked just a tad, they could have seen actual play. As mentioned, 1BB would have been good, but you just can't justify the additional mana for this.

I think they are both dudes... though vampire make-up makes it tough to tell, sometimes.
