Damnation is an absurdly wonderful card, let's get that out of the way. the thing is R&D will probably never reprint it in a Standard environment.
I think Barter in Blood is more on par with Magic's power level that they are trying to transition into. Flavor fully and mechanically "sacrifice matters" these days.
I like seeing black get card advantage.
I am delighted to see this come into the meta :D

Very nice card. Kills indestructibles, regenerators, creaturs with shroud.

Not always the best, but in the right deck, this is just downright vicious. No, this won't go in every aggro deck you make. But there is a time and a place for this card, and if you know when that is, you can make this sucker sing.
(The time and place, by the way, is usually in a control deck, or after a few careful chump-blocks in limited that leave you with nothing and the other guy with nothing but one or two of his big threats)

I LOVE this card. Will kill anything with shroud, hexproof and indestructible (which damnation can't touch). If you make a deck with a few cheaper sweepers and a few of these your opponents won't touch you. Works great with Grave Titan as you can just sac the tokens too.

@Timmyforever - This actually can generate card advantage, where diabolic edict never will. If you cast this with an empty board and nab two creatures, you just effectively +1'ed your opponent. Of course, it's going to be crappy if you're playing an aggressive deck too. The card really shines in a control deck that can take advantage and make the symmetrical effect asymmetrical.

i use 4 copies in my demon tribal deck.
turn 1+2- do nothing
turn 3- soulcage fiend
turn 4- attack with soulcage, barter in blood
turn 5- bloodgift demon
rarely fails. throw in a coulple of Homicidal Seclusions for the win.

Looks like Sorin's still on top of things. This is overcosted (compare to Innocent Blood) but is a good Edict in general.

The real winner of this block was black multiplayer.
