I don't think it is a hinged shield, I believe it is a shield formed into a corner, thereby allowing it to block a side attacker as well as the front attacker simultaneously.

It's a touch expensive, but its still useful. Multi-block is a handy ability.

Pauper goodness.

Kederekt Creeper + Fists of the Demigod + Vampiric Link + Helm of the Ghastlord + Accorder's Shield + Vanguard's Shield + Clout of the Dominous

You get an 8/15 with Haste (not that it matters), Deathtouch, Vigilance, First Strike, Wither, Draw/Discard, Shroud, "Lifelink" and can't be block except by two or more creatures, but can block 2 creatures. I guess the Vanguard's Shield is really just overkill though.

This card has narrow uses and is often overlooked..... exactly why I like it!

If you want to draft a mill deck you'll usually be going blue/x. If your second color is white, I usually draft for more of a board clog/ stall strategy with Cathedral Sanctifiers and Angelic Walls stopping any aggro decks from wiping you before you can get rolling. This is a great card that helps fill in your mana curve, since Dreadwaters, Stern Mentor, and Rotcrown Ghoul are all 4+ cmc.... not to mention other great common cards in this deck type like Amass the Components and Elgaud Shieldmate

Not only does it help your curve out, but it puts your angelic walls outside of Thunderbolt range. Really usefull since you sometimes have to pair your mentor up with a wall, and if it gets bolted that can really gum you up.

Of course all things ... (see all)

So, it's a shield with a hinge?

How in the world does that make a shield better?

Blows. Go away you card. Far too expensive, and the bonuses it grants are narrow or not that useful.

Is there a rating below half a star? Don't draft this, don't play this. Certain cards are meant to be utilized only between bike spokes to imitate a motorcycle's hum.

It absolutely is hinged.. If you look carefully at the top you can see it bracketed to either side of the shield with a screw/nail (or something along that same line, serving a similar purpose) going straight down the center. That said, I still don't see how it helps the situation enough to warrant it being there.. This card sucks too btw.. 1 to cast, 2 to equip and it would have been somewhat decent to some players.. But as is, straight rubbish. I get it, there has to be cards like this. Not b**ching, just stating the obvious.

@BagsMcpiper: It makes it less encumbering, maybe?

This card has limited uses, but can be awesome when use in the right combo. Personally, I use it in combo with Stuffy Doll. An indestructible blocker who can block two creatures and deals damage back to the opponent? Yes, please. Also, combine with Inquisitor's Flail and he now does double damage as well.
