Wanna know why it's a heretic? Because burning bodies on Innistrad is said to produce red-aligned vengeful spirits. Points for flavor!

This card gets several points for flavor and card mechanic. Like Blazing Torch tapping this card let's you physically do what the card says, Blazing let's you fling torches, this let's you stab the undead.
Another point is that the Undying mechanic has one weak spot, that is the moment the creature is in your opponents graveyard and wants to come back. At this one moment (with the trigger on stack) the heretic comes into play and gets rid of your enemy.

And it doesnt eliminate dredge, its far too slow and expensive for that.

I'm very glad they printed this card. Exiling things from a grave is a really important effect in a set like Innistrad, but using a card to do so can be just too painful. However, sticking the ability on a bear is great. Perfectly serviceable body half of the time, and an incredibly useful ability when you need it.

Raging Poltergeist shows the aftermath of her actions. Judging by the rating of the card, the heretic is justified.

A good card to release some of the steam generated from all the difficult to keep dead creatures. Will definitely prove its usefulness in draft.

While I wouldn't say it eliminates Dredge or even undying, it definitely slows down and possibly ruins them. All in all, I think it's a great card. Because you can exile any creature in any grave, you can put a stop to any kind of graveyard shenanigans that others try to do with the grave. Someone tries to reanimate one of your big creatures? Nope. Someone tries to rez one of theirs? Nope. Granted, it'll be on the board and they'll see it a mile away, it still helps to prevent them from trying anything funny, and that if they desperately want a creature, they'll have to waste a kill spell on this thing just to nab something from the grave.

In the fine tradition of Withered Wretch, Samurai of the Pale Curtain, and Scavenging Ooze

Fantastic combo with Misthollow Griffin. Attack / Block high level creatures with the Griffin and the Heretic just exiles it so you can cast again next turn! Love the flavour / art as well.
