This is certainly a bit situational but better than most people think, a poor man's Char with a different drawback.

Not bad. In a burn deck you will probably play this during your opponent's turn, and if you're playing an aggro deck he shouldn't have the 2 mana to spare!

...and then RDW wanted a better burn spell, so they printed Flame Javelin. But I suppose it has its place in land/resource denial decks, as others have mentioned.

I like that this could tap those few lands my opponent was keeping for some counterspell action to ensure I can play spells.
