Not just a great two-color land cycle, this is a great two-color land cycle includes the opposing color pairings!

@Grimzo1590: If you put it down first turn, it bounces itself back to your hand since you have no other land out. Congrats, you just wasted your land drop.

When using a card such as this can you return a tapped land?

Well I run a Black white Zombie/Spirit control deck for Modern and Vintage.
My question is if you have this opening hand can you put down with out on your first turn, or do you have to have a basic land down?

can I play a basic land at the beginning of the turn and then at the end of the turn play Orzhov Basilica - returning a land card to my hand as the card states, or does this violate the 1 land per turn ruling? I expect it does but would like to clarify.

I like this for recurring glimmerpost's life gain when running four cloudpost and four glimmerpost.

@ PsyV: That would violate the 1 land per turn rule.
The key is to return an already tapped land to hand. This is not a real mana acceleration in terms of turns it takes to reach a certain point, but it allows you to build your mana base with less cards/lands.
Further more, if you draw one of these late in the game and have some cycle lands on the battlefield like Secluded Steppe or Barren Moor, you can return those to hand and cycle them for something else as mana might not be a concern at that point. You can even tap the returning cycle land to pay it's own cycle cost.
Another good choice to return is a land that has a "when this enters battlefield" effect, such as Bojuka Bog. Just remember to keep a balance between "comes into play tapped" and regular lands or put in a couple of Amulet of Vigors
