sign in Blood is a perfect encapsulation of black flavor.

Though it's worth pointing out, JFM2796, that in the right deck playing this on your opponent can be devastating. For example, I find it perfectly suits a discard deck making use of Liliana's Caress. Once you've made them take heavy damage for discarding their hand, Sign in Blood let's you punish them for drawing cards...which you can then make them discard for even more pain.

Should have been reprinted in Dark Ascension, it fits the flavor perfectly. Humans signing over their life to demons (check out Ravenous Demon). Plus, it would have help out mono black.

This is a bit of a tangent, but I really wish more draw spells were costed like this. 2U for two cards is the standard for a draw spell now (Divination), but that is just horribly inefficient. For U, you get to draw a card plus gain a bonus (any number of one mana cantrips). Most of those cards don't see competitive play (mainly just brainstorm/preordain/ponder), and adding an extra 2 to the cost and removing whatever bonus for one extra card doesn't see competitive play either. This card is pretty much exactly what draw spells need to be - two cards for two coloured mana with no drawback, or in this case two cards for two coloured mana with an advantage and a drawback that offset each other. This has seen real play in tournaments when it was Standard legal, but it was never even close to being too good.

Some oddball reach, a 2 for 2 and a combo/card advantage engine. The only thing holding it back is the BB cost.

But in all honesty 2B is too much and starting to seem like a blue spell in black and 1B is too powerful even at 3 or the psychotic 4 life.

I love how it says "target player", instead of just yourself or your opponent. Gives it some versatility. You can even use it as a little burn if you need it.
