Still silly with Riku: Sure, you don't get to chose a second target for the Artisan token, but who cares? You can still end up with this monster, a copy of him, a creature from the graveyard, and copy of that for 13 mana, which is doable in Commander.
Great card, though obviously designed for formats like Commander or to be cheated in because of the huge casting cost. Downright strange power and toughness, too. I doubt there are any other 10/9's in the game.

Cool thing, is that if he is countered while his ability is still on the stack, you can return himself with his own ability. Kinda like Demigod of Revenge in that regard.

@C0nker4: certain cards allow you to cast cards from your graveyard. In such an event, Artizan's ability would trigger, allowing you to put another creature onto the battlefield from your graveyard.
Certain cards like Reiver Demon does not allow this though, as the rules text points out that you must cast it from your hand.

This is going to be an awful lot of fun in a Simic Ramp deck using the Evolve cards. Transmute Grozoth to search for an Artisan, cast Artisan, revive Grozoth and trigger the effect of all of your Evolve cards twice while searching your deck for the rest of your Artisans and placing 18 Power's worth of creatures on the field for 12 mana. Even if you draw into Artisan without Grozoth, you should be running plenty of worthwhile high-Power/Toughness cards to trigger your Evolve cards for the Artisan to revive.

Though not 100% synergistic with the commander deck, it's still just a nice card. Graveyard recursion that can occur any in any deck that needs it, 10/9 body, easily splashable in a format like EDH, and Annihilator 2. Not super amazing, but enough of a threat to make someone have to deal with it quickly. It draws hate from the reanimated card.

Both good and bad, his ability is only when he is casted. This means that even when countered, you get a creature from the graveyard. On the other hand, many of the combos mentioned here wouldn't work. You only get a Zombify if you cast him; its not an etb effect. So it can only work for effects that say "you may cast a card" etc. or when you hard cast it from your hand.

I am almost 100% sure that this is not true. His ability triggers when cast, so he is not in the grave at that time to target himself. Your opponent would be able to counter it, but only after you put him on the stack, his ability on the stack, and chose and already-in-the-grave target. Unless I am entirely wrong, and again I strongly believe that I am not, he cannot recur himself since he is not in the grave when you choose his target.
