for a 3/3 that becomes a 3/3 when it dies sounds like a good deal to me.

Trbokix: And 2 colors heavier.
This isn't all that bad. I remember using this to great effect in a Kavu casual deck I ran back in the day. And it works well with Wrath of God.

I would say this is exactly as good as sprouting thrinax due to being mono-colored. Gold cards are supposed to be stronger because you have to jump through more hoops for the correct mana, either filling land slots with expensive lands with drawbacks, or taking up threat slots with mana fixers.

Now can be 6/6 that becomes 2 3/3s when it dies . .
Time has been harsh to this card . .

I always used to use a Penumbra Wurm and a Worldslayer in my best deck.

If it copied itself up front, then it would be on to something.

@ hoonster
Yes and no. This is still an uncommon while Wurmcoil Engine is a mythic rare. At uncommon strength, this is amazing
Also, @ Trbokix, Sprouting Thrinax has 3 colours in its cost, while this has only one symbol. Simply put, the more symbols a card has, the harder it is to play, especially when they are different.
However, if you can get all the colours, you're right.

I guess he has a place in a kavu tribal deck, where it can trigger kavu monarchs twice.
