Wait, wait... this land allows you to tap for mana on the turn it comes into play. If you were only splashing another color, that's excellent. You don't slow down, and you can gear up to play your big spell (or your answers like Naturalize a little later).
So why does card of the day consider "trying to provide mana itself" a mistake? Perhaps, from a design perspective, Terramorphic Expanse is a cleaner card. But if they printed Terminal Moraine in a set where you want to splash to achieve minor effects in a second or third color, it would fit well. This design was perfect for Planeshift, where players were doing just that... trying to squeeze a third color in so they could play a powerful Tri-Spell, or sneaking one more basic land in for domain...

Agreed coming in untapped makes this much better than it looks. Assuming you don't mind the colorless for a few turns, for example when splashing as said, it has a use.

It actually feels as though this would be an excellent card in a Commander deck. It taps the turn it comes into play, it's a little slow to search with (hence goes good in Commander), and it can shuffle your library when needed.
Not as good in other decks, but great in Commander!

This can get you two Landfalls in one turn, or tap by itself the turn it comes into play. It has it's niche, and it's good there.

In Commnder you can have only one of these, one Terramorphic Expanse and one Evolving Wilds, so why not play all of them if you have five color deck.
On the other hand if you only have two or three colors the Krosan Verge and it's ilk are better.

If you want to tap for mana the turn it comes out, the alara panorama cycle could be better. If you're going five colors, Expanse is usually better.
