This card is only symmetrical if you never attack with it. It's much better than it seems, it essentially adds at leas two damage to your Gempalm Polluters.

There are few enough of these (i.e., 1-mana 1/1s with ETB effects) that they form a tight cycle:

White Cathedral Sanctifier
Blue Sage of Epityr or Merrow Witsniper
Black Maggot Carrier
Red Forge Devil
Green Elvish Pioneer
