A poison-less and slightly more splashable variant of Caress of Phyrexia (which is also still in Standard)
I love these double-edged black cards. It might seem like they have huge drawbacks, but it actually makes them useful in a lot of situations, if you're not getting any good draws you can use it on yourself, or you can you use it on your opponent to finish them off, etc. The flavor is cool, too.

This card could find much love with Underworld Dreams!

What's with the moaning? Sets up a potentially nasty combo with Runeflare Trap.

After the card cast is taken into account it does double your card card advantage compared to sign in blood, and for less than double the damage, so from that perspective its casting cost makes sense. Compared to 2 sign in bloods you have the same cards, more life, and pay a splashable 4B instead of BBBB. Maybe not as useful late game admittedly but think the reaction was a bit harsh.

I would gladly pay an extra for a card if it allowed me to play my card draw spell as a late game kill spell.

Yeesh... Sign in Blood you are not!
Still, draw is draw, and always worth considering in Limited.

someone played this targeting ME - it was pretty funny, other than the fact that I died...
and - NO - you do not get to use any of the three cards before you die! :)

It's an ok card but I wouldn't use it often
