I especially like this variant of the basic protection instant, the ability to protect anything for White, saving valuable enchantments, lands, even Planeswalkers. The fact that it gives YOU protection in addition to all your permanents for the Fateful Hour s just bonus.

If there is a card that makes good use of the fateful hour mechanic, its this

Giving you protection from a colour means burn/loss of life cards can't target you, and protection for all your permanents is just icing on the cake

Love it. Not only is a great response to targeted removal (or red boardsweepers), in standard you can strategize with phyrexian mana to maximize the benefits, sign me up.

I agree with majinara that most of these cards are subpar, but his review on this one...there is no reason not to run this. You know all those creatures you say die to removal? Problem solved, right here, for one mana. And it'll make something, or maybe everything, potentially unblockable. How can you complain about this?

Commander Review: it's playble but not great. It acts most of the time like a very narrow counterspell. If you have a commander that is very vulnerable and can do something great when it got rid of summoning sickness AND you don't run blue for counterspells, then adding this is a possibility. I'd probably still prefer shelter, which is even more narrow, but it does protect my commander fine as well and is a cantrip.
