A rather weak creature if you consider the two colors in the costs. But the name suits the ability.

using the flavor text as a hint I'm pretty sure the design team forgot to add "counter that spell or ability" making it an overly weak creature...

I like the flavour a lot, but it should have had trample and been a 7/7. At the time, that would probably have been too strong, though.
