I actually enjoyed this card a lot. I liked to inclue 4 of them whenever I had room. They had two uses... 1) Early damage and 2) Save a big creature from direct damage. I won several tournament games with several of these guys doing all the damage. Why? Because the bigger creatures kept getting nuked and these were all that was left. So, each turn I just kept poking away. When playing against direct damage, if you have a couple creatures out there plus a couple of these, then these have to be nuked first, or your opponent has to pay more to kill the bigger creatures. Imagine the frustration as your opponent tries to calculate how many mana to use on each creature... will you save this one or that one? Will you split the differentce and prevent one to each? Is that a Healing Salve in your hand? It's highly entertaining!

Very useful, not idiot-proof, but good against players who rely on damage to do anything.

A decent creature...its ability has never been relevant, no matter how many creatures that have been printed with it...

I'm glad that stopped printing large quantities of damage preventers.

This version (as well as Beta, UNL and Red) can combo with R&D's Secret Lair to protect planeswalkers. Otherwise, meh.

Samite massage parlors are known for their soothing Swedish massage, very relaxing if you can stand the constant pungent odor of the incense. Pay a little extra in the jar for some "physical wholeness".

Used to play these and have been tempted to use them again in casual retro decks. Never really made a huge difference but it seems like a White creature should be able to prevent damage. I suppose if you use it well, you can win some blocks and attacks you wouldn't normally.
With this grandpa, your Serra Angel takes 5 damage to kill, so she'll come out ahead against the Sengir Vampire.
