@majinara: Not true. In the case that the creature you placed this on is killed in combat, you will still gain life equal to its power and the power of the creature that killed it. This is likely to be something like 8 lifegain at the least, which is still a pretty decent one-time effect for 3 mana. And this is in the absolute worst-case scenario. Of course, you should almost always play it on your opponent's creature; otherwise, they could just kill your creature with non-damage-dealing removal.

Fun with Iff-Biff Efreet in multiplayer games, use Bouble Matrix to keep him around till someone plows him or something.

I sense majinara has lost to too many lifegain decks. Shutting down a creature is never a bad thing; ever. Neither is constantly thwarting you opponent's ability to kill you, over, and over, and over. The only things that ruin lifegain are poison counters and the fact that sometimes, you can't establish a lead fast enough. Any deck running things like this that are worth anything are dedicated to their theme, and hence can survive long enough to gain momentum.
End of story.

I smell Stuffy Doll here: 3 life for {T} and killing your opponent. Not the very best synergy though

How could they dance to a tune that only Yawgmoth could hear?

This is a great card in a black/white "life drain" deck, alongside cards like Divinity of Pride and Sanguine Bond.
