"I was playing against a guy who's been playing for way longer then I have that INSISTED that "Can't attack you" included your creatures, was he right?"

Yes, he's right... but even without Blazing Archon out, you can't attack creatures.
In Magic, the only things that creatures can attack are players and planeswalkers. You don't get to say, "Alright, Bill, I'm attacking your Gladecover Scout with my Walking Corpse". All you can do is send your creatures at an opponent's (or an opposing planeswalker's) face, and that opponent gets to choose how they block, if at all. You can't attack creatures.
As Blazing Archon says, if your opponent has it on the field, you can't attack them. If they happen to have a planeswalker like Gideon Jura on the battlefield, you can attack that planeswalker, and your opponent can choose to block as he or she sees fit, but if they don't have a planeswalker, then yo... (see all)

This + Privileged Position = "Oh, I'm sorry. Did you actually want to win?"

One of the best flavor text and art ever printed. The sight of Blazing Archon makes warriors question the ineffable philosophical implications of battle.
