Hoping to bring the rating up some. This is by no means a bad card, especially in an enchantment heavy deck with some light saproling spawn. Probably the Doom Blade crowd at it again -.-

Auratog and rancor (brilliant halo, spirit loop and flickering ward can be nice too)

Great card 5/5, but people get scared of it and kill it instantly every time, so I've never even gotten to use it's abilities. I want to see it used with Sigil of the Empty Throne and Doubling Season in my EDH G/W enchantment deck.

Woah. When I saw this rated 2.something, I new I had to log in.
Really, the other two that rated this before me? You people do realize this is in the enchantment deck, not in... say... the devour deck, right? There are plenty of enchantments in that deck alone to make this epic. This is epic. It does not deserve its 2.X rating. For shame

Wow, this is terrible in a devour deck.
2.x/5

This thing looks like it should be stronger than 3/3.

I run both Auratog and Faith Healer with Rancor as sac engines, plus Endless Wurm to fuel this and enchantress card draw.
For a terrible version of the same effect, check out Oath of the Ancient Wood.

Its a huge target the moment you cast it. But the fact is, if you manage to activate his ability even once, he boosts himself! Imagine someone casting lightning bolt, and then you flash eel umbra: Your Ancient is now a 5/5 with totem armor.
4.5/5, if only because I wish he had less power and more toughness since I'm too afraid to ever attack with him.
