I've seen this used very effectively in certain land-based combo decks.You can lock down the creatures that are attacking with things like Maze of Ith and Ice Floe, and you can just ditch this the turn you plan to go off.

Ice age block had a lot of interesting lands, Halls, sister of clacial chasm, can be quite interesting with Eon hub.
