*Gasp!* A green flier!!

...

Meh. Flying doesn't make this card good, though. I much prefer powerful Reach cards and Tornado Elemental to this.

If he came out today I'd definitely draft him although he wouldn't make it into tournament constructed. Evasion is pretty powerful in green though with all those Giant Growth effects. Comparable to Uktabi Drake which was pretty decent.

Flying + First strike = Green

They quoted an unknown poet? Wow, now that's pretty cool.

These days we don't even see known poets on cards anymore.
Not that i dislike the flavor texts that are from Magic's fictional multiverse, but having a bunch of quotes from real poets on Core Set cards would be a nice thing in my opinion...
But i guess these "legendery" and "dark" days are over, and our flavor texts are better kept within Magic's fictional world, which is more than large enough by now to find enough quotes for each card.

It's like the dragonfly deliberately chose abilities outside its color. Take that, green philosophy!

A mediocre creature that I'm nonetheless fond of because it has some of the best art I've ever seen on a Magic card.

I like it. It's versatile. Enchant it up and it's not bad.

If I ever get bored enough to make a Coheed and Cambria theme-deck, I'll need four.

P.S. Quinton Hoover is amazing.

Well, I wonder if I can convince my opponent that this creature gets "dragon" buffs.

Sure it's now labeled as an "Insect" but I like the thought of it becoming a 4/4 when crucible of fire comes out.

I usually don't engage in tactical rating, but for you Emerald Dragonfly, I give you a five.

Oozing with flavor/
Never seen in tournaments/
A casual treat!

I would put a couple of dragonflies in my deck and would claim that they were good luck. This card has all of the hallmarks of good design.

Ethics is not something confined to certain spheres of life, ethics applies to card design, and this is an ethical triumph. Whimsy should always have a place in our lives and in our decks. The one who builds a deck merely to win games can win a tournament, but she can never pluck the fruits hanging from the highest branches.
