It's card advantage. Worth the mana if you're running a control build of some kind.

Not really that bad considering a lot of the more threatening artifacts come out on turn 3+ anyway.

Not Legacy or Modern tier obviously, but still solid for Casual and EDH. In fact, I like this much more than Shatter.
