I remember this being the first card I saw in my first booster of Magic cards. Needless to say, I was overjoyed at a creature that could grow stronger, that I built a deck around it. To this day, I remember winning rarely against my more experienced friends, but I had one hell of a great time doing so.

You could build a casual deck with a lot of swampwalkers (and other Shades) and things like Tainted Well that can give anyone a swamp to walk. You could play this to help close it out when you have a lot of mana out. Of course you're likely to have something better to do that with. 2/B would've made it more playable.

This guy is a classic example of a card that is constructed junk but limited gold.
Especially knowing black torment was the upcoming pack, this guy was a reason to commit to black.

Four mana for a 1/1 dork is too much, even if it got evasion and is pumpable.

How come this is rated higher than Dirt water Wraith? They're very similar, but the wraith seems somewhat better to me... (There should not be a space between dirt and water. I can't autocard it due to excessive censorship!)
