Townsfolk is just what they used when it was a human (they did not use that as a creature type for the longest time) that couldn't be classified in any other way. It's as close to "ordinary human" as types ever came, and run-of-the-mill professions like moneychanger and farmer don't get types. Still, you'd figure this could at least be updated to Human Scout after Kor Cartographer.

The art for this card is insane! Donato Giancola is MTG's Caravaggio. I hope it gets reprinted with the same artwork in Zendikar.

@A3Kitsune: Because townsfolk isn't quite a profession. As longwinded said, this was merely Wizards' first attempt of a creature type for average Joe humans, when there wasn't anything else available.
@longwinded: I'm not sure if this should be a scout. A Kor Cartographer might be wandering around and chart the territory, but this chap is just sitting at home drawing maps.
Then again, the one from Exodus seems to do what the Kor one did, so you do have a point here^^
@omniszron: The art's really pretty, but i'm not sure this would have suited in Zendikar (using subjunctive since retroactively speaking, it never got printed :P)
I don't even know if Wizards ever reprinted a card with the same artwork when it re-appeared in another Cycle and not in a Core Set.
How could there be exactly the same person from a different timeline and a different plane? From a Vorthos point of view, this would ruin the ambie... (see all)
