He does a better job as blocker than any huge wall, given that your opponent doesn't have any tramplers, and he is unblockable on top of that. That's a really lovely card which even has a decent tribal type.
And the artwork tops the entire card off :)

If it blocks a creature with trample, does it only stop 1 damage or does it completely nullify all the trample damage?

This may be the piece that I need for my Sigil Captain deck. I've been looking for some good, cheap 1/1s in white and I think this guy makes the cut.

I currently exploit the fact that he's human, I use stuff like Silver-Inlaid Dagger, Avacyn's Collar or Butcher's Cleaver.
Sure there's better equipment deck alternatives, but if you want human-flavor, it's pretty good.

The ultimate chump blocker, but I would rather have Commander Eesha. Shes got a fatter butt for trample and can block flyers, for 
more. This guy is solid, you could run both.
Just don't go thinking your invincible. One removal and suddenly your position falls apart. In chess we call this removing the defender. Keep a brave the elements or something equivalent handy.
