In some way this is the opposite of Karplusan Wolverine which deals an additional damage when it gets blocked. The Wolverine is better because it actually could force a difficult decision (if the defending player controls two 1/1 creatures or a 2/2 creature), the dwarf must be blocked with your 1/1, otherwise it'll probably die anyway.

Karplusan Wolverine is way better. When your 1/1 creatures are getting through unopposed, it's usually because you control the field already and don't need this guy's ability; whereas the wolverine is useful when your opponent has blockers. And more importantly, if your opponent attacks at all you can usually choose to use the wolverine by throwing it away as a chump blocker (which is not at all a bad choice if there's something with 1 toughness for it to kill on the enemy side; you trade off with something else and avoid some damage in the process.)
