Why are the previous 4 comments praising him?

Sokenzan Spellblade and 6 Mountains is exactly 20 damage attacking turn 6. (Both cards require you to be on the draw.)
Interesting how similar those two are: Both are Ogre Flame Spirits that get +18/+0 for six mana and six cards.
Trying another route...
Stromkirk Noble: 0,1,2,3,4,5,6 = 21 on turn 7
Slith Firewalker: 0,1,2,3,4,5,6 = 21 on turn 7
Bloodcrazed Neonate: 0,0,2,3,4,5,6 = 20 on turn 7
Erdwal Ripper: 0,0,2,3,4,5,6 = 20 on turn 7
Markov Blademaster: 0,0,0,1+2,3+4,5+6 = 21 on turn 6!

+3/+0 for just one red mana? That's actually quite strong. You could for example discard anger, then you have a 5/3 with haste. Or you discard some Fiery Temper. They cost another red mana to play with madness, but can then take out possible blockers to clear the path, or simply burn more at your opponent. Like, discard two fiery temper while your opponent has no blockers, and you'd deal a total of 14 damage with this guy (he'd have 8 power and the fiery temper would deal another 6).
Or discard anything with unearth, or flashback, or recover, or whatever.
He's not perfect, but there are easily decks where he can do a fine job. Also good for hellbent decks. Or Dark Suspicions and Mindstorm Crown and many others.

the limit is red mana unfortunately. however, he is indeed a house once you get him unblocked and protected lol

The fact that there's no limit means you could dump your hand to this guy for an impossibly big ogre.

I remember this card, I remember not drafting him, I remember not playing him, and I remember being very happy when my opponent used his ability to discard a Kamahl Pit Fighter. I understand Red is the most random color but the discard mechanic in Odyssey rewarded Blue, Green, White and Black and it nerfed Red. So many spells that could've been game breaking had Random discard and it made playing Red very unreliable. Thanks Wizards for taking a good mechanic and leaving one color out in the cold.
