I actually REALLY REALLY like the artwork. It's not bad, it's just weird, which I think is the point.
And it's a spirit because I imagine the objects are being animated by some spiritual or supernatural force. WHATEVA.

So funny, I love the art. Wizards should print more of this kind of stuff.

ONE OF THE BEST ARTWORKS IN MAGIC!
Seriously...
An important part of art is originality. Were you asket to depict a horrible horde, what would you draw? Monsters? Zombies? Demons? Vampires? Aliens? Specters? None would portray animated windmills, street lights, dishwashers, toasters, etc.
5/5. Just for this reason. I don't mind about the playability of this card (which is clearly 0/5).

This art reminds me of the parade scene in the anime Paprika. I want to make a theme deck now.
EDIT: For those who don't like Ian Miller's magic art, his website is incredible, and I suggest you check it out before making a judgement of his work.

maybe wizards thought they're animated objects and could therefore be considered as Spirit, or because of being some sort of poltergeist; although that thesis is kind of clumsy.
maybe Construct instead? they could also make this a Warrior without any further creature type...
regarding species, no creature type i could currently think of matches exactly to that creature.

This is definitely one of my favorite funny cards in all of magic. Horrible Hordes is hilarious!

Incidentally, it's not terribly inefficient...
