WELL said Chrs84. This card brings me back to my roots. I love this card. Ron Spencer has some serious talent. Top 10 greatest art imo. Just love it. 3.8/5

The problem with poison on large or even medium-sized creatures was that the damage would kill you long before the poison. Ten hits with this is 30 damage, and chances are that's death. Since there isn't a lot of poisonous creatures, and they tend to be unweildly and expensive (as Chrs84 has mentioned), the only decent posion strategy is the Sliver one. And that one is a "win as fast as you can" strategy. But hey, at the time, a strictly better Hill Giant was sweet. Especially in black, which didn't usually get nice cheap creatures. Well, still doesn't, despite what certain Vampires would have you believe.

I rated this decently, too. It used to be that players could only deal poison counters if their creature wasn't blocked. Then, Poisonous on the Virulent Sliver took over, and now infect. Still a good card, though... don't knock it!

Excellent point about: by the time we reach 10 poison with this card it would be 30 point of damage (Doctor Kenneth). Of course the poison game play has evolved into more possibilities, and doing 30 points of damage doesn’t always mean an opponent died, lol, but good point, I agree.

This creature can help against lifegain decks... and there's a way to play poison without using the poison slivers. We call it Marsh Viper or Sabertooth Cobra + something to ping (Viridian Longbow, Fire Whip, etc.) + something to untap (Seeker of Skybreak, Instill Energy, etc.). Just give your poison guys some strong creature support, like, yes, slivers (not the poison kind), and watch as your opponent has to choose between either getting killed by damage from loads of creatures, or from poison after having gotten rid of your bigger, badder creatures with removal.

Doubling Season wouldn't work because it requires the counters to be on a permanent you control

The question is, then, why isn't it a "Zombie Snake" when the artwork clearly depicts it as undead?

This is actually reasonably sized for the casting cost.
