When regarding the original Maro species concept from Mirage i actually wonder why Maro is not an Elemental Spirit or Plant Spirit these days.

Ah, the original Maro! I've always had fun toying around with decks where I keep a massive hand-size, and I can't help but love the ancestor to great cards like Multani, Maro Sorcer, Sormaro, First to Dream, Kiyomaro, First to Stand, and Kagemaro, First to Suffer. Plus, he's still a great card even though he has so many great successors, which isn't always the case going back to the first of a trend in Magic.

If used properly he is a 4 mana 6/6 or 7/7 on the third turn, its a force to be reckoned with.

Maro (Also MaRo) is the nickname for longtime Magic: The Gathering card designer Mark Rosewater. The truncated version of his name is both a card and a common shorthand around the Magic playing community. "Maro" cards (of which there are eight as of Time Spiral) reference the number of cards in players' hands and grow more powerful the more there are. From Wikipedia

The possibilities of this deck archetype are massive. And, even with all of the changes of magic over the years, he is still my go-to 4-drop for that deck, and he hardly ever lets me down!
